SPRINGFIELD – The Lincoln Land Community College Board of Trustees chose architects for three major construction projects at last night’s September board meeting, held at the college’s Southern Region Education Center in Litchfield.

The Board approved the recommendation of selection committees to accept the services of FWAI, Inc. of Springfield for the new Connecting Link building that will join Menard and Sangamon Halls on the main campus, and PSA Dewberry of Peoria for the planned Workforce Careers Center. Both agreements are pending successful negotiations for fees and services. In addition, John Shafer and Associates, Inc. of Springfield was selected for architectural services for a new eight-classroom facility at the Eastern Region Education Center in Taylorville.

The projects are part of a $33.8 million building program for the college, which also includes improvements to the Jacksonville facility. Construction is expected to be completed within three years and is being funded with no increase in the district tax rate.

Also last night, Dr. Charlotte Warren, president of LLCC, announced that all seven seats on the LLCC Board of Trustees will expire in 2009. One trustee will be elected from each of LLCC’s seven trustee districts for a four-year term at the April 7, 2009 election. The first day to circulate nomination papers is Oct. 28, 2008, and the filing period for nomination papers is Jan. 20 through Jan. 26, 2009. Nomination papers will be available at the office of the assistant to the vice president of administrative services in Menard Hall.

The Board approved a Fraud Risk Assessment Policy, directing the vice president of administrative services or designee to develop a process to detect and correct deficiencies which could lead to fraud. The policy will be used in conjunction with a Fraud Risk Assessment Program already in place at the college.

A new “two plus two” agreement was approved with Methodist College of Nursing, providing a smooth transition for LLCC nursing students who transfer there to earn a bachelor of science in nursing.

The Western Region Education Center in Jacksonville will use science labs at MacMurray College for the fall 2008 semester under an agreement approved by the Board. There will be no cost to LLCC other than for supplies.

The Board approved the purchase of Spacesaver shelving for the Library, a copier/scanner for computer aided drafting (CAD) and architectural programs, and the renewal of the annual Microsoft Campus Software and Server Agreement.

And, Dr. Judy Jozaitis, vice president of workforce development and community education, discussed the achievements of her division over the past year, including the success of the HIRE Education pre-apprenticeship program and launch of a virtual “Green Center,” as well as goals and challenges for the upcoming year.
