Report from EREC Advisory Committee Sept. 26
|
TAYLORVILLE – Lincoln Land Community College’s Eastern Region Education Center (EREC) Advisory Committee met on Friday, Sept. 26, at the EREC in Taylorville.
The committee heard a number of reports from LLCC representatives. Jim Brubaker, EREC executive director, updated members regarding fall semester enrollments, and demographic statistics. Members learned about the new ESL (English as a Second Language) offering in Taylorville along with a new ACT Prep course geared for students wanting to enter the nursing program at LLCC.
David Andrews, EREC assistant director, reported that dual credit enrollments continue to grow. Dan Austin, LLCC trustee, informed the group about the status of the construction bonds and the architect selection for the EREC building project. Niki Coomer, president of the Eastern Region Student Advisory Council (ERSAC), provided an update on ERSAC activities including the successful voter registration drive and the donation of an Amanda Grieve (LLCC alum) painting to the EREC.
Committee members also heard a presentation given by Judy Jozaitis, Ed.D., LLCC’s vice president of Workforce Development and Community Education, about the multitude of projects her division has been involved with during the past year. The meeting concluded with a video entitled, “Shift Happens – Globalization the Information Age,” and discussion of the challenges facing the educational community.
The next meeting of the EREC Advisory Committee will be held February 20, 2009.
