SPRINGFIELD—Lincoln Land Community College’s Agriculture Club is teaming up this fall with area grain elevators, farmers and landowners to help fight hunger throughout central Illinois through the Harvest For All Food Drive. 

According to Bill Harmon, LLCC Agriculture Club advisor, “As a group of students preparing for careers in the agriculture industry, students in the LLCC Agriculture Club feel they have a duty to help feed those in need throughout central Illinois.  With the increased cost of living, many families are being forced to choose between buying food and paying the bills.”

The Harvest For All Food Drive will allow farmers and landowners throughout the LLCC district to donate a portion of their 2008 crop directly to help feed hungry people in local communities. Farmers can notify cooperating elevators of how many bushels of grain they would like to donate. The donation of grain or cash will be sent directly to the Central Illinois Foodbank. 

Other individuals or groups may also donate by sending a check made payable to Central Illinois Foodbank and mailing it to Lincoln Land Community College, c/o Agriculture Club, 5250 Shepherd Road, P.O. Box 19256, Springfield, IL  62794-9256. 

The LLCC Agriculture Club mission is to provide competitive, recreational and service opportunities for its members.

The Central Illinois Foodbank opened in 1982.  The Foodbank partners with 160 agencies such as food pantries and soup kitchens throughout 21 counties in central llinois to combat hunger.
