The Lamp, the student newspaper of Lincoln Land Community College, will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Nov. 19 with an exhibit opening at the James S. Murray Gallery, located on the upper level of Menard Hall. The event, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

The Lamp was first published on Nov. 26, 1968. Front pages from the past 40 years, April Fool’s Day sections and political sections will be on display. Current student photographers’ work will also be featured.

Brenda Protz, LLCC professor of journalism, hopes those who have been involved with The Lamp in the past will attend. “Many advisers and students have played a big role in keeping this publication alive for the past 40 years, and we hope they come to the exhibit and see what they helped to create.”

The Lamp has won numerous awards from the Illinois Community College Journalism Association, including 21 awards in the past two years.

The Lamp 40th anniversary exhibit will continue through Dec.11. The James S. Murray Gallery is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. More information is available by calling LLCC Arts and Humanities at 786-2318 or Ms. Protz at 786-2589.

Alumni or former advisers are also encouraged to contact Ms. Protz to be a part of a formal database for the journalism program. Anyone with old photographs of the Lamp staff or other newspaper-related photos may e-mail them to brenda.protz@llcc.edu or send copies for inclusion in a future anniversary publication.
