LLCC Theatre will hold auditions Monday, Sept. 8 and Tuesday, Sept. 9 for its fall production of “The Shadows of Edgar Allan Poe.” The open auditions are being held from 7 to 9 p.m. in Sangamon Hall South, room 0009 on the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.
The play, directed by Mark Hardiman, LLCC professor of theatre, is a devised piece of theatre that will be built by the acting ensemble which will choose from Poe’s most well-known and accessible works. Through a collaborative process, the ensemble will develop the performance under Professor Hardiman’s direction.
“Devised pieces of theatre can include song, movement, poetry, improvisation, pieces of actual text, striking visual images and reflections on the piece from the point of view of the performers,” says Hardiman.
Performances begin Friday, Dec. 5 and run three weekends.
All roles are open in the production. Auditions include reading from the script and movement exercises. The cast comprises adults and young adults able to play 19 years and older. College students and community members are encouraged to audition. Those interested in backstage duties, stage management, or assistant to the director should drop by auditions as well for a brief conference with the director.
LLCC Theatre is committed to education in theatre, emphasizing not only performance but also growth in those involved in the production. Those participating will register for college credit or participate through LLCC’s Community Education program.
