Bring a small cooler and lawn chair for this foodie trip that starts with breakfast snacks on the coach bus. First stop, shopping at Global Foods Market and then lunch on your own at City Foundry’s Food Hall featuring international food stands.  Next, more shopping with a stop at Trader Joe’s then on to the Maplewood District which includes Penzey’s Spices and Vom Fass Stl. Our last stop will be Tower Grove park for Sauce magazine’s Food Truck Fridays, a conversion of more than 20 food and beverage trucks where you can grab a bite and drink while enjoying local live music.

Join us as we travel to southern Wisconsin to discover the landscape that inspired A Sand County Almanac, an environmental literary classic written by world-renown conservationist Aldo Leopold. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, history buff, or simply seeking inspiration, the Aldo Leopold Foundation invites you to connect with the land, learn from the past, and appreciate the delicate balance of our natural world. Highlights include the following.

  • International Crane Foundation: Nestled amid the farmlands of southern Wisconsin in Baraboo, the International Crane Foundation is a captivating destination for nature enthusiasts and conservationists alike. As the only place on Earth where you can observe all 15 crane species, the foundation offers a unique opportunity to witness these beautiful and endangered birds up close.
  • Aldo Leopold Foundation & Visitor Center and Leopold Shack and Farm: Immerse yourself in the legacy of Aldo Leopold, a visionary conservationist, as we explore this National Historic Landmark.
  • Green building tour of the Leopold Legacy Center: The Leopold Legacy Center holds the distinction of being the first-ever fully LEED-platinum certified, carbon-neutral building in the world. Its design and construction prioritize sustainability and minimal environmental impact.
  • Performance by Tim Southwick Johnson, featuring music from his album “Sand County Songs.”
