What Is Work-Based Learning?

Work-based learning allows a student to participate in various programs such as career awareness and exploration, internships and/or apprenticeships to enhance classroom learning. This allows the student to apply classroom learning to the workplace, providing students with the opportunity to develop their employability skills while being enrolled in classes.

• Would you like to obtain employment while attending school?
• Would you like to gain professional experience in your field before you graduate?
• Would you like to learn by doing?
• Would you like to apply what you are learning in the classroom to the career path you have chosen?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then a work-based learning program may be for you.

As a student participating in an internship or apprenticeship, you will:

• Apply the skills you are learning in your classes to your workplace.
• Develop special skills through on-the-job training with a particular employer.
• Potentially have a job upon graduation.
• Obtain college credit.
• Earn while you learn (applicable through an apprenticeship program).
• Develop work ethics.
