Lincoln Land Community College is holding its third annual Agriculture Career Expo on Thursday, Nov. 9 for high school students interested in ag careers. The event will be in the Trutter Center on the LLCC Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road, with two session options, 9:30-11:30 a.m. and noon-2 p.m.
The expo showcases the many job opportunities in agriculture by bringing together interested students with educational resources and industry professionals.
“While the field of agriculture includes farming, there are also many jobs that can be found off the farm,” says Bill Harmon, LLCC agronomy professor. “Some of these jobs include horticulturist, food scientist, real estate analyst, sales representative and machinery mechanic.”
At the expo, students will learn about LLCC’s agriculture program options and how they can get started; participate in mini-lessons in agronomy, ag mechanics, animal science and horticulture; and meet with LLCC’s ag faculty and students as well as representatives from various ag-related businesses. In addition, students will receive a T-shirt, lunch and an opportunity to win a door prize.
Students can register at www.llcc.edu/ag-career-expo or contact their high school ag teacher, FFA advisor or counselor.
Major event sponsors include Farm Credit Services of Illinois, Illinois Pork Producers Association and First National Bank of Litchfield.
