LLCC celebrates African-American History Month in February

SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land Community College celebrates African-American History Month in February with the theme, “We Are the Reality of the Dream!” The public is invited to view the various events online.

Monday-Thursday, Feb. 8-11 – AAHM Trivia … Knowledge Is Power! Test your African-American history knowledge focusing on historic events and people of African descent who have pioneered, invented and taken a stand to change laws, hearts and minds for civil rights and equality in America. Prizes will be awarded to the top three student winners. A link to the trivia contest will be posted by 8 a.m. each day at www.facebook.com/LLCCStudentLife.

Tuesday-Thursday Feb. 16-18 – Legacies in Motion; Speak Your Truth: Video testimonials featuring LLCC staff Asia Jackson, Brandon Lewis and Rashawn Jones inspired by Rosa Parks, Barack Obama and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Speakers will explore the impact these influential African-American leaders had on their lives and future success. Videos will premiere each day at noon on the LLCC YouTube channel: http://bit.ly/LLCCYouTube.

Monday-Friday, Feb. 22-26 – LLCC’s Got Talent Week: Students, staff and faculty share their talents through virtual recorded performances in honor of AAHM. Daily themes are: Motivated Monday – AAHM Spoken Word, TikTok Tuesday, Worldwide Wednesday, Truth in Talent Thursday, Freedom Call Friday. Performances will begin each day at noon and can be viewed at www.facebook.com/LLCCStudentLife.
