LLCC library hosts 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s educational exhibition

SPRINGFIELD — The Lincoln Land Community College library is hosting “September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World,” an educational exhibition that presents the history of 9/11, its origins and ongoing implications through the personal stories of those who witnessed and survived the attacks.

The walk-through exhibition is viewable through Sept. 30, with the public invited. Told across 14 posters, the exhibition includes archival photographs and images of artifacts from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s permanent collection. It explores the consequences of terrorism on individual lives and communities at the local, national and international levels, and encourages critical thinking about the legacies of 9/11.

The posters are mounted on pillars on the first floor, northwest side of the LLCC library, located in Sangamon Hall on the LLCC campus, 5250 Shepherd Road. The library is currently open from 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 5 p.m. on Friday.

“As an institution of higher learning dedicated to growing knowledge within the community, sharing this exhibit with our district feels fitting,” said Leslie Ross, faculty librarian/professor. “Twenty years after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, this exhibit provides an opportunity for generations to reflect and remember or learn about the events that unfolded so that together we may Never Forget.”

The exhibition was developed by the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and made possible in part by the National Endowment of the Humanities.
