RCP: How to Apply

If you are a new student to LLCC, visit our Earning a Credit Degree or Certificate page first to learn more about these general steps to enrollment.

If you are a current or returning student, proceed to the information listed below.

Admission requirements

Sixteen students are admitted each fall semester. The application deadline is the last Monday in July. The application for admission will be active for six months. After six months, the application will be considered inactive and a student would need to reapply.

Students should review the specific requirements that must be met to enter the applicant pool for the LLCC Respiratory Care program.

This checklist does not guarantee admission into the respiratory care program. It is to be used for guiding purposes only and to assist the student in determining readiness to apply to the program.

It is the student’s responsibility to notify LLCC Admission/Records/Registration when requirements have been met.

Admission and program requirements are subject to change.

  1. Attend an information session given by the Respiratory Care program director or complete the online information session.
  2. Have high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate on file in LLCC Admission/Records/Registration.
  3. Demonstrate placement into EGL 101.
  4. Demonstrate placement out of MAT 092 OR MAT 097.
  5. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for all previous college courses or high school GPA of 2.5 (on a 4-point scale). High school GPA will be considered until the student has completed nine hours of program specific courses.
  6. Complete one year of high school science or biology or college equivalent with a minimum grade of “C.”
  7. Have official transcripts from all colleges ever attended evaluated by LLCC Admission/Records/Registration. Students who neglect to do this, or delay doing this, may jeopardize their ability to apply to, be accepted to, or remain enrolled in a health professions program at LLCC.
  8. Submit the Respiratory Care program application with the assistance of an LLCC student success coach.

Additional requirements

Following acceptance to the program, students are required to have (at the student’s expense):

  • A health assessment
  • Documentation of immunizations
  • A criminal background check and drug screening
  • CPR certification for health care providers (American Heart Association)
  • Influenza vaccines

Residency criteria

Chapter 112, Section 103-17, of the Illinois Public Community College Act requires that whenever enrollment in a program must be restricted because of space limitations, a college must give preference to district residents. Consequently, admission to health career programs for students who live outside of LLCC District #526 vary per program based on space available and qualified applicant pools.
