Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review/discussion sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. SI gives students an opportunity to get together with people in their class to compare notes, discuss important concepts, develop strategies for studying the subject and test each other.

Each SI study group is led by a student leader who has previously taken the course and serves as a “model” student to help others integrate content and study skills. The leader facilitates the study sessions by using probing and redirecting techniques to help students develop the critical thinking skills appropriate for the course.

How do I join a Supplemental Instruction group?

SI sessions are conducted both in-person and virtually through MS Teams. Contact the LLCC Center for Academic Success at 217-786-2396  or send an email to cas@llcc.edu for information about the current semester’s Supplemental Instruction groups.
