Program Highlights

ECG technicians, commonly known in the healthcare community as EKG technicians, conduct electrocardiograms and stress tests, prepare ECG test results, schedule appointments and perform other related duties.

This course is designed for CNAs, EMTs, CMAs and other qualified healthcare professionals seeking to add the ECG technician credential to their current qualifications.
Students will learn the anatomy and physiology of the heart, basic electrophysiology, and 5- and 12-lead ECG placement.

Class: Feb. 1-April 7, Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Externship: Dates TBA, students will be required to have daytime availability Monday-Friday for one week

Program enrollment is by appointment only.

Enrollment for the fall cohort is open from mid-April to early July.
Enrollment for the spring cohort is open from mid-October to mid-December.

Notes:

This course is not eligible for financial aid; however, payment plans are available.
Students using the payment plan option have up to five business days after registration to finalize their payment plans.

WIOA funding

Students enrolling in this program may qualify for funding under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) based on the following criteria:

Income level
Job loss or dislocation
Veteran status
Under-employed or unemployed adults

Students must submit an application to use WIOA funding. To confirm eligibility for funding after submitting an application, students will need to work with the Land of Lincoln Workforce Alliance by calling 217-524-5996.

Other program requirements

Students must submit documentation verifying completion of the following requirements by the established deadline:

CPR certification

All students are required to be CPR certified. Accepted certifications are American Red Cross (professional rescuer) or American Heart Association (healthcare provider). Certifications from any other organization will not be accepted.

Drug screening

All students are required to complete a drug screening. Students who receive a positive drug screening result, including but not limited to marijuana, will not be permitted to remain in the program. Students taking medication that may result in a positive test should provide documentation from their physician.

Background check

All CMA students are also required to complete a background check through American DataBank (Complio). The background check is completed when the student creates a Complio account.

Required immunizations

Students are required to provide documentation showing they have met the following immunization requirements:

Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR): Documentation of two MMR vaccinations or titer results demonstrating immunity to measles, mumps and rubella.
Varicella (chickenpox): Documentation of a history of chickenpox, two varicella vaccinations or a positive varicella titer.
Hepatitis B: Documentation of three-dose series, a positive hepatitis B titer or a signed hepatitis B declination form. Students submitting a declination for medical reasons must also provide documentation from their physician.
Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) or tetanus, diphtheria (Td): Documentation of Tdap or Td vaccination received within the past 10 years.
Tuberculosis (TB): Documentation of a two-step skin test or QuantiFERON-TB Gold blood test completed before attending the clinical experience. Students with a previous positive skin test must provide documentation of a a chest X-ray. Testing may be completed through a local health department or healthcare provider.
Influenza (flu): Students attending externship from October through April are required to have a flu vaccination before beginning their clinical externship.
