Key Program Features
Mathematics is the abstract study of numbers, quantities and space. The study of mathematics relates to many other disciplines and helps students develop analytical skills while working in a problem-solving environment. Related careers include actuaries, statisticians, operations research analysts, postsecondary teachers and mathematicians. At LLCC, students can obtain a strong foundation in mathematics to prepare them for transfer to a four-year college or university.
Careers in mathematics include mathematical technicians, mathematical science teachers (postsecondary) and mathematicians. According to U.S. Department of Labor employment projections, opportunities for mathematical technicians are expected to grow 7.8 percent, for mathematical science teachers (postsecondary) are expected to grow 9.2 percent and for mathematicians are expected to grow 29.7 percent from 2016 to 2026. The 2017 median annual wage for mathematical science teachers (postsecondary) was $70,910.
