DMS: How to Apply

If you are a new student to LLCC, visit our Earning a Credit Degree or Certificate page first to learn more about these general steps to enrollment. If you are a current or returning student, proceed to the information listed below.

Admission requirements

Please note that this checklist does not guarantee admission into the program. It is to be used for guiding purposes only and to assist the student in determining if ready to apply to the program.

It is the student’s responsibility to notify LLCC Admissions when requirements have been met. Applications must be turned in by the first Friday in February at 5 p.m. to be considered for the program start.

Admission and program requirements are subject to change.

  • Submit the LLCC admission application.
  • Submit high school transcript with proof of graduation or GED certificate on file in LLCC Admissions and Records.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges ever attended to be evaluated by LLCC Admissions and Records. Students that delay doing so may jeopardize their ability to apply to, be accepted to or remain enrolled in a health professions program at LLCC.
  • Attend an information session given by the DMS program director. The DMS program has a limited enrollment, and student selection criteria are covered in detail at the information session. Dates of information sessions are available on the DMS webpage and may be obtained from LLCC Records at 217-786-2296 or LLCC Health Professions at 217-786-2449.
  • Have a minimum of Proficient or higher score on the TEAS test taken within the past two years (scores may be accepted from any location offering the TEAS testing) OR have an associate or bachelor's degree.
  • The following college-level course must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher prior to DMS program admission: Algebra, statistics or higher mathematics course (MAT 105, 113, 120, 141 or higher) taken within the last five years.
  • Qualify to take BIO 175 Human Anatomy and Physiology I.
  • Have a 2.5 GPA or higher for all previous college courses. Have college transcripts sent to LLCC Records.
  • Provide documentation of a chargeback agreement. (Applicable to out-of-district students only.)
  • Provide evidence of satisfactory physical health (required of practitioners to carry out the tasks of this occupation).
  • Submit the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program application with the assistance of a student success coach specific to the health profession's field of study.

Application and admission to the program are separate procedures from application and admission to LLCC. The DMS program uses a selective admissions process. Prospective students’ applications are ranked based on several criteria such as grade point average, DMS course grades and previous academic achievement. Applications will be accepted during specified time periods for the summer admission.

Map out your plan

Schedule an appointment with a health professions student success coach to map out your plan! The health professions student success coaches are happy to assist you in working toward your educational goal of applying to the DMS program. To ensure that you stay on the right path toward this goal, we require that all potential DMS applicants meet with a student success coach. Your student success coach will review with you in detail the DMS admission requirements. Once you have completed all program admission requirements, your student success coach will provide you with the DMS program application.

Additional requirements

Following acceptance to the program, students are required to have (at the student’s expense):

  • A health assessment
  • Documentation of immunizations
  • A criminal background check and drug screening
  • CPR certification for health care providers
  • Influenza vaccines

Residency criteria

Chapter 112, Section 103-17, of the Illinois Public Community College Act requires that whenever enrollment in a program must be restricted because of space limitations, a college must give preference to district residents. Consequently, admission to health career programs for students who live outside of LLCC District #526 vary per program based on space available and qualified applicant pools.
