Key Program Features
Are you a certified surgical technologist (CST) looking to enhance your certification? LLCC’s transition program is designed for students who are currently a CST and are interested in getting their associate of applied science (AAS) degree in surgical technology. Obtaining the associate degree creates other career advancement opportunities, which can lead to increased achievement, compensation and personal satisfaction.
Job Outlook
Due to medical technology advances making surgery safer, more operations are being done to treat illnesses and injuries. Employment of surgical technologists is expected to grow 12 percent from 2016 to 2026, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. In May 2016, the median annual wage for surgical technologists was $45,160.
Degree Program
LLCC offers the following program to successfully transition those with a CST to an AAS in surgical technology:
Transition to AAS in Surgical Technology • Associate in Applied Science
Time to completion: 1 semester if attending full time, or can be spread out over multiple semesters
(Note: Students can begin the program any semester; however, SGT 220 is a required course and only offered in the fall and spring semesters.)

Investment in Your Future
Surgical technology (SGT) courses have a variable tuition rate. For the 2018-2019 academic year, SGT courses have an in-district rate of $259 per credit hour. Tuition for other courses in the program run the standard in-district rate of $129.50 per credit hour. Fees are $11 per credit hour. Get more information on tuition and fees.
