LLCC women's basketball advances to national championships

SPRINGFIELD — The No. 3 seed Lincoln Land Community College Loggers played host to the No. 1 seed Parkland College Cobras in the Region 24 Championship game on March 10 and won 70-50. LLCC improved to 27-6 and will advance to the NJCAA Division 2 National Championships in Joplin, Missouri, beginning March 18.

LLCC was led in scoring by Sam Lindhorst with 16 points. Megan Harrell, Marley Smith and Avrie Schmidt all had 14. Durbin Thomas contributed 10, all of which came in the second half. Harrell pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Whitney Rumbold pulled down seven. Lindhorst and Schmidt each pulled down five.

"These kids have battled so much all year. Injuries, illness, you name it, and we dealt with it," said Chad Jones, head coach. "I'm so proud of them for how they handled the adversity and just kept coming to work."
