SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land Community College will host former U.S. Foreign Service Officer Tom Selinger for a special presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 3-4 p.m. in the Trutter Center on LLCC’s main campus, 5250 Shepherd Rd., Springfield. The presentation is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.

Selinger, who served 27 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, will share stories and insights about American diplomacy and the role diplomats have played in advancing U.S. interests around the world. His presentation will highlight notable diplomats with Illinois connections and explore how diplomacy has influenced international relations and national security.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Selinger served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army, including combat service during Operation Desert Storm, and worked as a political specialist for the Canadian government. His overseas assignments included Kyrgyzstan, Denmark, Croatia, Albania, and Trinidad and Tobago. Today, he leads outreach efforts for the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training, helping share the stories of American diplomats and their impact on world events.

The presentation is sponsored by LLCC Community Education and the World Affairs Council of Central Illinois. The council is one of 10 organizations nationwide selected to host “Portraits of American Diplomacy,” a program that will include a reception, exhibit and panel discussion featuring Selinger at the Old State Capitol on Oct. 23 from 5-6 p.m.
