Every learner's journey is unique. Some are preparing to take their first college classes. Others are returning to education after years in the workforce. Some are building skills for a career they're passionate about, while others are exploring new possibilities and discovering where their interests may lead. 

That spirit of exploration was on full display last week as Lincoln Land Community College welcomed more than 100 local employers, our students and approximately 1,400 high school students to the LLCC Careers Expo on our Springfield campus. As I walked through the event, I had the opportunity to speak with employers and students about the value of connecting education and careers. 

Employers shared how partnerships with higher education are important in helping them meet workforce needs. Our learners and high school students explored career opportunities, asked questions and made valuable connections. One comment I heard repeatedly from students stood out, "I never even knew that was a career!" Moments like that remind me how important it is to help people discover possibilities they may never have considered. 

That's why I encourage prospective learners and their families to join us for Campus Visit Day on Monday, Oct. 12. 

Since becoming president in July, I have had the opportunity to meet students, employees, alumni and community members across our district. One thing has stood out consistently: LLCC is a place where people discover opportunities, develop confidence and prepare for meaningful futures. 

Campus Visit Day is designed to help people experience those opportunities firsthand. Whether your goal is to earn an associate degree that transfers to a university, prepare for a high-demand career, advance in your current profession or simply explore your options, LLCC offers pathways to help you reach your goals. 

Those considering a transfer degree can discover how LLCC provides a strong academic foundation while offering the value and personalized support that help many learners succeed. Faculty and staff work closely with students to prepare them for the next step in their educational journey. 

Those interested in workforce and healthcare careers can explore programs that provide hands-on learning and prepare graduates for careers that are essential to our communities and regional economy. From health professions and skilled trades to agriculture, business and technology, LLCC offers practical training aligned with workforce needs. 

Just as importantly, we continue to expand opportunities for learners to gain real-world experience. LLCC is working with local employers to grow internships and work-based learning opportunities. These experiences help participants build skills, make professional connections and enter the workforce with confidence. 

Campus Visit Day also provides an opportunity to learn about the many resources available to support success. Visitors can meet faculty and staff, tour classrooms and labs, learn about financial aid and scholarships, and gain a better understanding of the services that help learners thrive both inside and outside the classroom. 

Perhaps most importantly, a campus visit allows participants to imagine themselves here. There is tremendous value in walking the campus, meeting the people who make LLCC special and experiencing the energy of our learning community. It is one thing to read about a college. It is another to stand here and envision yourself pursuing your goals, building friendships and shaping your future. 

LLCC is the community's college. Throughout the year, our campus hosts academic competitions, athletic events, workforce programs, cultural activities, youth camps, community gatherings and many other opportunities that bring people together. These experiences help create lasting connections and memories while showcasing the many ways LLCC serves our region. We want community members to see LLCC not only as a place for education, but as a trusted partner invested in the success and vitality of our communities. 

At LLCC, we believe education creates opportunities. We believe learners deserve access to affordable, high-quality programs that prepare them for success and the chance to pursue goals that are meaningful to them. 

Choosing a college is an important decision, and the best decisions are made when you have the information and experiences needed to feel confident about your future.
