Applications for the basic nurse assistant (CNA) program are accepted on a rolling basis. The program is offered in both fall and spring semesters and during the summer term.

Students who choose to pursue the CNA program must meet the minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

1. Must meet one of the following reading criteria:

• Reading placement score of 240 or higher
• ACT reading score of 18 or higher.
• SAT writing/reading score of 477 or higher.
• High school GPA of 2.7or higher.
• GED Reasoning Through Language Arts score of 175 or higher.

2. Criminal background check

A fingerprint-based criminal background check is required by law for all nurse assistant students and must be completed prior to registration. (Background checks from other LLCC Health Professions programs are not transferrable.) Please email CNA.program@llcc.edu to request a Health Care Worker Background Check Authorization and Disclosure Form. Complete it legibly. Be sure to include an email address or fax number where you would like your fingerprint paperwork sent and return the completed form to one of the following:

• LLCC Registration, Student Hub, Menard Hall
• LLCC Student Success, Student Hub, Menard Hall
• LCC Outreach Center (Beardstown, Jacksonville, Litchfield, Taylorville)
• Email a copy to the CNA program.

Once your disclosure form is processed, applicants will receive a Livescan form to take to an approved vendor for fingerprinting. The vendor will provide a receipt to return to LLCC via one of the above methods. Once the background check steps are completed and required paperwork submitted, applicants will receive an email confirming they have completed the background check requirement. 

Please note: Students with disqualifying convictions on their background checks cannot participate in the CNA course. Students may apply for a waiver and enroll if it is approved. A list of disqualifying convictions can be found at www.idph.state.il.us/nar/disconvictions.htm.

Requirements after acceptance

• Social security/ITIN card

Attendance on the first day of class and clinical is mandatory and cannot be made up. If a student must be absent on a subsequent day, no more than two class periods may be missed and made up during a scheduled make-up day or another section which may differ from your regular scheduled class time.

Students who choose to pursue an associate in applied science degree in cardiovascular sonography must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

Central sterile service technician is a selective admission program.

Students interesting in earning a central sterile service technician certificate of completion must meet one of the following criteria to be admitted to the program.

• Demonstrate proficiency of college level reading.
• Hold a bachelor's degree or higher.
• Achieved grades of a "C" or better in a college-level reading course (EGL 101, it's equivalent or above) from any accredited college or university.
• Earned an ACT score of 22 or higher in reading.
• Earned an SAT score of 480 or higher in writing/reading.

Applications for the occupational therapy assist program open each year on Sept. 1 and are accepted through the second Thursday in June. Admissions are processed on a rolling basis. Sixteen students are admitted to the fall cohort. Once the class is full, qualified applicants will be placed on a wait list in the order their application was recieved. Students on the wait list will be notified if an opening becomes available.

Students who choose to pursue an associate in applied science degree as an occupational therapy assistant must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

3. Observation experience

As part of the OTA admissions process, prospective students must observe occupational therapy services for a minimum of seven hours. The professional observed must be licensed as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant. Contact the OTA program director for the OTA Observation Experience Form. This requirement allows for observation at more than one site and the practice area of your choosing:

• hospitals
• outpatient clinics
• nursing homes
• sub-acute rehab settings
• early intervention
• community settings
• schools

Following the completion of the seven observation hours, prospective students must upload the OTA Observation Experience form with their online application.

  • If the results indicate an issues, this information will be shared with the appropriate college administrators to determine the next steps.
  • Any finding on the criminal background check requires the student to contact the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists to complete the Ethics Review Pre-Application, at the students' expense. The results of the ethics review must be provided to the program director immediately upon receipt.

A required orientation will be held prior to the start of the program. Attendance at orientation is not optional.

Applications for surgical technology are accepted through the second Thursday in June, or until the program is filled. 

Students who choose to pursue an associate in applied science degree in surgical technology must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

• Complete HLT 109 (Medical Terminology) with a grade of "C" or better. This should be completed before admission to the program or within the first semester of the program.

Students who choose to pursue an applied science degree in surgical technology must meet the minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

1. Possess the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential

• The certification must be in good standing with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and not revoked. A copy of the current certification card and/or certificate is required.
• Possess a certificate of completion/diploma in surgical technology from an accredited surgical technology program. A copy of the graduate certificate is required.
• Have employment as a surgical technologist with a minimum of one year of current operating room experience. A letter of employment verification must be provided by the employer.

2. Meet with a student success advisor

Make an appointment with the health professions student success advisor by calling 217-786-2224. Your student success advisor will provide a detailed review of the admission requirements as well as the selective admission procedures. 

Health professions student success advisors are only available at the main campus in Springfield, located within the Student Services Hub. 

Apply to Transition to Surgical Technology

Applications for the vascular sonography program will be accepted through the second Thursday in June or until the program is filled. Applications must be received by this time to be considered for the class beginning in August of the same year.

Students who choose to pursue a certificate of completion in vascular sonography must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool:

1. Attend an information session

Register to attend an information session. LLCC's DMS vascular sonography program has a limited enrollment, and student selection criteria are covered in detail at the information session.

2. Compete selective program requirements
 

• Provide current certification as credentialed general or cardiac sonographers (i.e., ARDMS: RDMS, ARDMS: RDCS, CCI: RCS, ARRT: RT-S).
• Provide evidence of satisfactory physical health required of practitioners to carry out the tasks of this occupation.

3. Employer/Clinical Site Participation Letter

Applicants must submit an employer/clinical site participation letter on official employer/site letterhead and signed by the hospital or clinic administrator. The letter must state that the employer/clinical site is willing to provide the student with sufficient on-site vascular scanning experience for the duration of the DMS vascular program and verification of clinical skills required for ARDMS exam qualification and must include employer/clinical site contact information for verification purposes.
