SPRINGFIELD – Lincoln Land Community College has named Ben Kramer as the new head coach of the Loggers men’s basketball program. Kramer steps into the role after serving 15 seasons as an assistant for the Loggers.
“I am incredibly excited and proud to announce Ben Kramer as our new head men’s basketball coach,” said Shanda Byer, vice president, LLCC Student Services and interim athletics director. “Having served as an assistant coach within our program, Ben understands our culture, our expectations and what it means to lead our student-athletes with integrity and purpose. His continuity, leadership and commitment to excellence make him the right person to guide this team forward. We are energized about the future of men’s basketball and look forward to what lies ahead under his leadership.”
A Springfield native, Kramer brings nearly 20 years of coaching experience to the position. Prior to joining the Loggers staff, he assisted at Champaign Central High School, Urbana University High School and Calvary Academy in Springfield. At LLCC, he has worked under two head coaches, including Chad Jones, to maintain a competitive and student-centered program.
Kramer’s coaching background extends beyond basketball. He has served as the freshman and JV head football coach and as a varsity assistant coach at Springfield High School, reflecting his broad experience with player development.
He holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Illinois Springfield and bachelor’s degrees in history and secondary education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Kramer is a graduate of Springfield High School and now serves there as a college advisor, working closely with students to build leadership skills and prepare for post-secondary success. He is the student council advisor and co-advisor to the National Honor Society, chairs the Springfield High School Instructional Leadership Team and has served as a District 186 summer school administrator.
“I am truly honored to step into this role and build on the strong foundation that has been established here,” Kramer said. “LLCC has been a place I am proud to call home for many years, and I am excited to lead our student-athletes with a focus on growth and accountability. I look forward to continuing to support our players on and off the court as they pursue their goals.”
