LLCC Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society installs new officers

SPRINGFIELD — The Alpha Epsilon Kappa chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Lincoln Land Community College held its fall induction ceremony Oct. 29 in the Trutter Center on the Springfield campus. The event formally recognized 31 new chapter members with a ceremony and reception attended by family and friends of the inductees and several representatives from LLCC administration, faculty and staff.

During the ceremony, the following chapter officers were installed: 

  • Andrew Sample, Edinburg, President
     
  • Jessica Gibson, Pleasant Plains, Vice President of Service, returning officer
     
  • Addison Patrick, Chatham, Vice President of Scholarship
     
  • Braden Nicoll, Springfield, Vice President of Records, returning officer
     
  • Elle Walker, Springfield, Vice President of Fellowship 
     
  • Lauren Spellbrink, Auburn, Vice President of Public Relations

The guest speaker for the ceremony was Hannah Shoemaker, Springfield, former chapter president.

"Phi Theta Kappa exists to celebrate and encourage academic excellence among students. Those who accept the invitation to join this distinguished honor society gain access to a wide range of opportunities for growth in scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship,” said Ryan Roberts, interim dean, The Learning Center at LLCC and chapter co-adviser. “Members can earn micro-credentials through online learning modules available on the PTK website and apply for scholarships to further their education or prepare for a successful transition into the workforce.”

Roberts credits the students’ hard work for Alpha Epsilon Kappa chapter’s continued recognition as a Top100 Chapter among the nearly 1,300 PTK chapters internationally.

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society recognizing academic excellence in two-year college students. Its goals include promoting scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service among members.
