SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land Community College students recently competed at the 2026 Midwest Model United Nations conference held in St. Louis, Missouri, a collegiate-level, immersive, educational conference that simulates the work of the United Nations.
Students from twenty-nine colleges and universities participated as delegates representing a country in the United Nations. Participating as a different country requires students to research the country to gain a better understanding of the complexities of international relations and policy negotiation. LLCC student delegates are currently enrolled in a political science Model UN class where they research the UN rules of order, structure and operations. While participating, students hone skills in research and writing, public speaking, negotiation and diplomacy.
At the conference, LLCC students represented the countries of Hungary and Poland.
LLCC’s Poland delegation was recognized as an honorable mention delegation. Delegates included: Nathan Golden, Mt. Pulaski; Braydon McKarnen, Springfield; Andrew Sample, Edinburg; and Marques Robinson Springfield. Robinson was also recognized as an honorable mention by the Model United Nations Conference on Trade and Development committee.
LLCC’s Hungary delegation included: Jatelyn Burcham, Riverton; Logan Daberkow, Springfield; Cameron Hudgins, Springfield; and Melanie Wiediger, Athens.
The delegations were led by Dr. Chris McDonald, professor of political science at LLCC.
