SPRINGFIELD — Visitors to Lincoln Land Community College may notice a new helper quietly at work near the Kreher Agriculture Center. Meet Snippy, a robotic lawnmower that is helping keep campus grounds neat while showcasing the growing role of technology and landscape management.
Snippy operates autonomously, navigating a designated area and trimming grass on a regular schedule. Unlike traditional lawnmowers that cut large amounts of grass at one time, robotic mowers, like Snippy make frequent passes, helping maintain a consistently manicured appearance, and they are typically quieter than a conventional gas-powered lawn mower. The automation in action demonstrates how robotics can improve productivity and sustainability.
Mower details:
• Robotik Kress 1 ¾ Acre Mission RTK, Brushless Motor
• Recommended 1 ¼ acre capacity
• Cutting width, 8.7 in.
• Average running time, 85 min.
• Charging time, 72 min.
• Anti-theft protection
• Blades should be replaced every 30 days
The next time you’re near the Kreher Agriculture Center, keep an eye out for Snippy. The small robotic mower is doing more than cutting grass, it’s providing a glimpse into the future of smart, efficient land management.
