LLCC mourns loss of fourth president, Dr. James M. Howard

Lincoln Land Community College mourns the loss of its fourth president, Dr. James M. Howard, on July 10, 2023.

Dr. Howard was appointed president of LLCC on Sept. 27, 1999, after serving as vice president of administrative services. He retired on June 30, 2002.

During his presidency, the college expanded outreach and established partnerships with colleges, universities and institutions. He oversaw the construction and opening of two new buildings on campus, the Millennium Center and Workforce Development Resource Center (later renamed Montgomery Hall) along with the dedication of the Helen Hamilton Outdoor Learning Center. He travelled with others to Ashikaga, Japan to establish a sister college relationship with Ashikaga Junior College.

A celebration of life will be held July 29 at Cherry Hills Church, 2125 Woodside Rd., Springfield. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with services to follow at 2 p.m.
