LLCC: The place to be

You know Lincoln Land Community College as an affordable, excellent place to start a college degree or workforce training. But have you thought of LLCC as great place to attend events, view exhibits, hear a lecture or enjoy a delicious meal? You should.

As your community’s college, we welcome everyone to visit our expansive library, with a beautiful view of our campus lake, and our art exhibit space, the Trutter Museum/Murray Gallery. Currently on display is the moving and inspirational Stamps of Hope II exhibit showcasing Syrian refugee artwork from the Zaa’tari Camp in Jordan.

Hungry for a delicious lunch with an inventive menu? Try our Bistro Verde, run by culinary students who design the menus, prepare and serve the food, and handle the details of managing a restaurant. Enjoy creative takes on classic dishes and a Chef’s special each week, while supporting students as they learn.

Looking for some “scary” fun? New this year is a haunted house called “Fear 101” sponsored by the LLCC police department. Construction and art students contributed their talents to this multi-room, Halloween-themed space open Friday evenings, Oct. 13, 20, 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28. Bring the little ones to a “lights on” version the afternoon of the 28th.

Our 19th annual Multicultural Fest is Oct. 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., showcasing a variety of cultures with exhibits, entertainment and food. It’s also Hispanic Heritage Month, and we’re celebrating and learning with multiple events, culminating in the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Fiesta, midday Oct. 13.

Want to learn a new language, explore a new topic, gain a new skill? The Community Education department offers a myriad of personal enrichment classes, including baking, cooking, art, technology, gardening and photography. And talk about active learners – the Academy of Lifelong Learning plans 10-12 educational and fun activities a month, from films and lectures to fitness and travel. Anyone 50 and up can join this social and adventurous group.

LLCC’s overall mission is to transform lives and strengthen our communities through learning. If you or a member of your family are looking to start or restart college or career training, come to our upcoming Open House Monday, Oct. 9. After you check in and enjoy a cookout, you’ll follow the footprints (of our mascot, Linc) and pawprints (of our outreach dog, Ember) to various buildings on campus to explore the programs and services we offer. Drop in from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and let us help you find your path.

Find information on these and other upcoming events at www.llcc.edu and on our social media.

With enrollment up nearly 18% this fall, you’ll see students of all ages and in all stages of learning when you visit our campus, outreach centers and other LLCC locations. We invite you to join us for an event, a class, a performance or a meal. You may find yourself wanting more, and we’re here to help you start whatever becomes your next educational journey.
