TAYLORVILLE, Aug. 2, 2021 — Kennedie Cearlock of Taylorville and Deissy Booker of Morrisonville were recently named the 2021 recipients of the Miss Liberty Memorial Scholarships at Lincoln Land Community College. The $500 awards recognize perseverance, courage and leadership.
Author Carol Alexander of Taylorville established the scholarship in 2020 for Christian County students attending LLCC. According to Alexander, she created the memorial award in honor of Miss Liberty, an orphan piglet who became a global tourism ambassador and mentor for homeless children.
Cearlock, a senior at Taylorville High School who has taken LLCC College Now courses since her freshman year, said, “This scholarship has made funding the last year of my educational journey at LLCC much more possible and easier.” She is pursuing a degree in biology with career aspirations to become a doctor.
Booker is a 2021 graduate of Morrisonville High School and became a role model as a class leader in Spanish and assisting with summer youth reading programs. She will attend LLCC this fall and stated, “I am not entirely sure what I would like to major in, but whatever I decide to do, I hope to make a difference and help people just like my donor.”
